MasterCard Zero Liability Policy Change: Effective October 17, MasterCard will be enacting changes to its current zero liability policy for unauthorized transfers to also include PIN-based ATM and Point of Sale (POS) transactions. This change means that cardholders will not be liable for unauthorized transactions as long as reasonable care was exercised in safeguarding the card from risk of loss or theft. Cardholders must continue to promptly report any occurrences of card loss or theft. If the conditions for zero liability are not met, normal regulatory limits will apply. Those limits are $50 if the cardholder notifies the bank immediately or within two business days of learning about the fraud. Cardholders are liable for up to $500 if notifying the bank within 60 days of receiving the statement containing the fraudulent transactions. If reported after the 60 days, cardholders have unlimited liability. For questions, please contact Customer Service at 800.355.0641 or visit your local branch.
